Straight Answers for Those Who've Served

VETERAN CDL QUESTIONS

Transitioning to civilian life brings unique challenges and opportunities. Get the clarity you need to maximize your military benefits and accelerate your trucking career.

Can I use my GI Bill® to pay for CDL training?

Yes. Approved CDL programs allow you to use your Post-9/11 GI Bill® or Montgomery GI Bill® to cover tuition costs. We guide you through the certification process so you receive your benefits without unnecessary delays.

How do military driving waivers work?

If you have military driving experience operating heavy vehicles, you may qualify for a Skills Test Waiver. This allows you to bypass the driving test portion and only take the written exams, getting you licensed and earning sooner.

Will a VA disability rating affect my CDL medical card?

Not necessarily. Most veterans with service-connected disabilities can pass the DOT physical without issue. The determining factor is whether your condition prevents you from safely operating a commercial vehicle.

Are there specific hiring programs for veteran drivers?

Absolutely. Major carriers actively recruit veterans because of their discipline, focus, and safety records. Many offer higher starting pay, specialized apprenticeship programs, and guaranteed home time for those who have served.
